Each year, together with the advanced notice of the AGM, usually held in late March or early April, members are sent invitations to join the committee as ordinary members or as officers of the committee.
Ordinary membership
There can be a maximum of 12 ordinary members, each serving a maximum period of three years; we therefore try to arrange four vacancies each year. Election to the committee is made at the AGM and members can put themselves forward at the meeting. To nominate someone for a position download the Committee Member Nomination form from here. Please note, the form should be completed and returned to the AILU office one week prior to the AGM each year.
Officers
There are three officer positions on the committee: President, Vice President and Executive Secretary. Each year, the committee puts forward its recommendations for the Officer positions.
Other AILU members (who do not have to first be ordinary members of the committee) who wish to be nominated for one of the three Officer positions, must submit their application in writing, supported by two other members, to the Executive Secretary at least 14 days in advance of the AGM. See the Officers and Roles page for details of the required duties.
Full details of the composition of the committee and the election of members can be found in section 4 of the Articles in the Memorandum and Articles of Association.
Thinking of joining the committee?
The demands on members is minimised by conducting most committee business by email. In addition, the committee normally holds two 1/2 day meetings a year – usually in March and October.
Membership of the committee provides opportunities for networking and to influence the way the Association develops. for further information or to express an interest in joining, please Contact the Secretary at any time.
See also Job Shop and Market Development for opportunities to join the committees of these special interest groups within the Association.
