The Outreach Project


Thanks to a grant from the Department of Trade and Industry, AILU is currently developing a ‘design for laser-based manufacturing’ sub-web as a valuable resource for engineering designers. The DTI grant was received in December 2005, and the site was launched in 2007.

AILU members and non-members alike are invited to submit material.

The aim


The primary purpose of the Design for Laser Manufacture sub-web is to encourage designers to ‘think laser’ and to produce product specifications that are optimised for laser-based fabrication; this will be done by providing examples and supporting information in the form of pictures (of laser-manufactured parts), video clips, slide presentations and information sheets.

The Opportunity

Participation through the provision of pictures, video clips, slide presentations and information sheets for the Design for Laser Manufacture sub web will raise your company’s profile within the industrial laser community. What is more, it’s free! Plus, as you can see on the draft home page each item displayed (whether it be a picture, video clip, slide presentation or information sheet) will carry below it a banner that can contain anything from a small advert to the contact details of the provider.

Please note that submitted material will be judged for quality, and will be processed and uploaded on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so a prompt response is advised.

I do hope that suppliers of laser-related products, laser job shops and other organisations that stand to gain directly from a growth in demand for laser-based manufacture will recognise the opportunity that this new initiative provides and will respond quickly to this call.
