The Laser Processing Reserach Centre (LPRC, webiste: http://laser.mace.manchester.ac.uk) at The Universtiy of Manchester is a multi-disciplinary reserach centre with strong interface with industry. The LPRC, led by Professor Lin Li (email: lin.li@manchester.ac.uk) has pioneered a number of laser processing technologies including striation-free laser cutting, net-shape laser welding, hybrid laser-EDM drilling, hybrid laser-mechanical drilling, sol-gel assisted laser coating of metal matrix composites, scanning particle lens array for nano-fabrication, laser procesing with non-convetnional beam geomtry. A number of technologies developed have been taken up by industires. For example, the laser cleaning technique developed at the LPRC is currently used in production by Rolls-Royce.
