Datum Laser, in collaboration with Binghamton University, New York, recently undertook a project that showcased the fusion of cutting-edge technology and academic innovation.
This collaborative effort aimed at supporting the endeavours of university students who were working on the development of a 1/3 scale F1™style car for research and development as part of their degree course.
The specific focus of this collaborative venture was the design and fabrication of custom Nickel 200 battery connectors for the students’ project. Datum Laser took on the crucial role of translating the students’ conceptual battery connector designs into functional components that could power the car.
The first step involved the examination of the supplied drawings by the students. Datum Laser’s team of engineers and technicians worked closely with the students to understand the intricacies of their designs, ensuring that every detail was considered in the manufacturing process. This collaborative approach ensured that the final product would not only meet but exceed the expectations and requirements of the ambitious project.
Once the design specifications were understood, Datum Laser leveraged its state-of-the-art technology to transform these designs into tangible battery connectors. The use of Nickel 200, known for its excellent corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity, was a strategic choice made to ensure the durability and efficiency of the connectors in the demanding environment of a high-performance race car.
Precision and accuracy were paramount in the manufacturing process. Datum Laser’s cutting-edge machinery, coupled with the expertise of its team, ensured that each battery connector was crafted with the utmost precision. This attention to detail was vital, as any deviation from the specifications could have significant implications for the performance and safety of the car.
The completed custom Nickel 200 battery connectors were then delivered to the Binghamton University students, ready to be integrated into their battery packs. The collaboration between Datum Laser and Binghamton University not only facilitated the realisation of the students’ designs but also provided them with components that met the high standards required for the demanding conditions of a high-performance race car.
