Introduction

The combined effects of political uncertainty, global pandemic and warfare in Ukraine have had a huge impact on recent supplies of energy and raw materials. AILU has an active community of Laser Job Shops that assist each other in collaboration for sharing best practice in Business and Technology.

This year’s Annual Business Meeting is the perfect place to catch up on lots of ways to address the challenges such businesses face in 2022.  Practical help for your business – to become more efficient, to save money and to find and retain key employees are address at the meetin:

Steel supply: UK Steel’s Gareth Stace outlines the current challenges in the steel supply chain facing the sheet metal industry in the UK.

Energy Costs: Liam Conway from CEC advises on the market trends and optimum strategies for negotiating energy contracts and Nigel Price of Regenerco outlines options for solar panels and CHP systems that save money from day one.

Staffing: Rowland Travis from Nottingham University describes the Degree Level Apprenticeship – hire and retain key staff who work as they learn and end up with a debt-free degree and a footing in your business.

Tax Rebates: James Cameron from ABGI outlines how R & D Tax Credit rules are changing in April 2023 – and what to do now to claim whether you made a profit or loss in the last two financial years.

New Technology: Hand Held Lasers for Welding & Cleaning are presented by David Pope of IPG and Sinan Bilgin of SSLS – and other suppliers give updates on the latest technology of interest to Job Shops.
