SUMMARY:AILU Workshop: Additive Manufacturing
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by\n \n\n  \nIntroduction\nChair: Moataz Attallah\, Universtity of Birmingham \nMetal Additive Manufacturing has advanced significantly in terms of process capability\, throughput and quality assurance. Higher power laser sources and advanced scanning hardware and software together with material optimisation have resulted in greater uptake of the application in a wide range of markets. \nFine metal powder or solid wire is fused by laser (and non-laser) technologies to form solid objects which can achieve high accuracy and repeatability with minimal excess weight or material and maximum mechanical properties – enabling new geometric solutions\, many inspired by natural forms. \nPresenters will cover recent developments in process control\, imaging\, modeling and material production as well as current advances in design for additive applications\, making this workshop of interest to anyone with an interest in manufacturing\, research or use of additive manufacturing. \nDelegates will be able to tour the Additive Manufacturing facilities at the university after the workshop. \nFree places are available for SMEs. If you’re an SME based in the Midlands\, AILU has partnered with AMTECAA to provide free tickets to this event. You will also have the opportunity to find out more about AMTECAA’s five fully funded technical feasibility projects supporting SMEs to access equipment and expertise to optimise or develop new products and processes. These include feasibility studies using some of the most advanced laser metal 3D printing processes\, such as laser powder bed fusion\, direct laser deposition\, and metal binder jetting. Please contact AILU for details or Prveen Bidare for further information p.bidare@bham.ac.uk. \n\nProgramme\n09:30 – 10:00  Registration \n10:00 Welcome\nMoataz Attallah\, University of Birmingham \nMorning Session\n10:10 AM–10:30 AM | Advanced Processing Routes for Netshape Manufacturing\nKhamis Essa\, University of Birmingham \n10:30 AM–10:50 AM | Understanding & improving laser-material interactions in LPBF through high-speed imaging\nAndrew Moore\, Heriot Watt University \n10:50 AM–11:10 AM | Process Control for the Creation of Porous Structures\nAmanda Cruchley\, The MTC \n11:10 AM–11:40 AM | Break \n11:40 AM–12:00 AM | Design for Additive Manufacture and the rise of Gen3D\nVimal Dhokia\, Bath University \n12:00 AM–12:20 AM | Metal Powders for Additive Manufacturing\nRaja Khan\, TWI \n12:20 AM–12:40 AM | RoboWAAM: an integrated hardware and software ecosystem for wire DED-Arc\nFilomeno Martina\, WAAM3D \n12:40 PM–1:40 PM Lunch \nAfternoon Session\n01:40 PM–02:00 PM | In-process quality monitoring: the power of sensor data fusion\nStephan Kuehr\, Sigma Additive \n02:00 PM–02:20 PM | Processing Titanium and Nickel Superalloys with Laser PBF\nRavi Aswathanarayanaswamy \, Renishaw \n02:20 PM–02:40 PM | Hybrid Additive Manufacturing Developments for Industry\nChris Austin\, Mazak \n02:40 PM–03:10 PM | Break\n \n03:10 PM–03:30 PM | Putting Additive Manufacturing into Production\nEmmanuel Muzangaza \, Digital Manufacturing Centre \n3:30 PM Optional Tour of Additive Manufacturing facilities at University of Birmingham \n  \nVenue\nEngineering Building (Y3)\nUniversity of Birmingham\nEdgbaston\nBirmingham B15 2TT \n  \n \nClick map to enlarge \nThe map shows the venue\, car park and University railway station. \nThe car park is just over 5 minutes walk from the venue. \n  \n  \n\n\nTravel Information\nSee here for information on how to get to Birmingham University by public or private transport. SUMMARY:Live-streamed webinar from Trotec: advantages of laser cutting for the signage and display industries
DESCRIPTION:Trotec laser will host a live-streamed webinar about the advantages of laser cutting for the signage and display industries on Thursday 26th January 2023 at 11am. \nIn the highly competitive signage market\, Trotec has recognised an increase in demand for laser technology among acrylic fabricators\, point of sale manufacturers and signage specialists. Laser cutting technology is becoming more mainstream in the print and sign industry as more businesses realise the competitive advantages it can bring. When used alongside traditional technologies such as CNC routers\, laser cutters can save production time\, reduce costs on maintenance and waste\, and improve product quality while optimising production workflows. \nAt the live stream webinar\, Trotec’s Applications Specialist\, Alex Beckingham will fabricate a layered display made from adhesive-backed acrylic sheets using the large format SP3000 400W laser cutter. \nAimed at the signage and display industry\, Alex’s demonstration will provide hints\, tips and practical advice for people in the sign and display industry who are either new to laser cutting or have experience but want to find out about how to take the next step and improve productivity with the latest technology and processes. \nTo register for the ‘Laser Revolution: How your competitors are saving time and money’ webinar\, go to https://www.troteclaser.com/en-gb/about-us/events/2022-10-large-format-laser-cutting-webinar?no_cache=1 \nThe webinar is a great opportunity to catch a glimpse of the largest Trotec laser machine before it heads to the Sign & Digital UK exhibition at the NEC\, Birmingham on 21-23rd March 2023 (stand J30). The SP3000 CO2 laser cutter has a working area of 2210 x 3210 mm and features market-leading features which significantly reduce loading/unloading time and makes maintenance straightforward alongside efficient processing to ensure the laser cutting system is prepared for busy and demanding production environments. \nTrotec is a manufacturer of market-leading laser cutting and engraving equipment and materials. The range of laser cutters range in size from A3 up to large format scale and are fully supported by Trotec’s UK-based service and support team.
