SUMMARY:MTC/BGA Technical Networking and Awareness Day on Laser Technology for Gearing
DESCRIPTION:Laser Technology for Gearing\nIn collaboration with Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) the British Gear Association (BGA) are holding Technical Networking and Awareness Day on Laser Technology for Gearing at MTC technical centre in Coventry on 24th May 2023. The MTC is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult (HVMC)\, which is supported by Innovate UK. The HVMC is the catalyst for the future growth and success of advanced manufacturing in the UK. It consists of seven technology and innovation centres across the UK and its vision is to work with companies of all sizes to bridge the gap from concept to commercialisation. \nFocus: Laser Technology for Gearing \nVenue: Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) – Coventry\, CV7 9JU \nDate: 24th May 2023 Time: 09:00 – 16:00 \nFree Attendance \n  \nAbout the Event\nThe Technical Awareness Day will include presentations on the topics below as well as machine demonstrations and tour of the MTC state of the art facility. \n• Laser Peening for improved performance \n• Development in laser surface texturing for improved tribological performance \n• Latest developments in metrology and measurement \n• Latest developments in laser-AM \n• Impact of Electrification and Net Zero on latest laser technology development \nThere will be plenty of opportunity to network with the leading Gear companies\, manufacturers\, distributors and academics. This will be your chance to share opportunities\, discuss challenges and promote your interests to likeminded people. Lunch will be provided. Please note places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis so please book soon to avoid disappointment. \nTo reserve your FREE place online please visit: www.bga.org.uk \nYou can also book your place direct by emailing Kirsty & Lynne in the BGA office admin@bga.org.uk

SUMMARY:Lasers in Low Carbon Energy - AILU workshop
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by\n  \n \n  \n  \n\n  \n  \nIntroduction\n \nChair: Tian Long See (MTC) \nEnergy generation requires radical transformation globally between now and 2030 due to more rigorous climate targets set by the UK government and around the world. This has presented huge challenges in terms of material resources\, manufacturing\, installation\, servicing as well as infrastructure. There are several different types of renewable energy with their own sets of unique challenges when it comes to manufacturing and infrastructure needs. For example\, wind and solar energy are not continuous and therefore require power storage (through batteries) as well as base level generation (nuclear power in the short term fusion energy in the longer term). On top of this we have existing nuclear power stations which take decades to decommission. \nNew technology in laser joining\, cutting\, texturing\, hardening\, cladding and shock peening (to name a few) are addressing some of the issues in manufacturing and decommissioning. Lasers will be a part of the landscape of Low Carbon energy generation. This workshop will address some of the areas where lasers are already being applied\, or need to address in future years. \nThis workshop will set out the needs and give case studies of existing applications in the field. It is ideal for researchers\, manufacturers\, integrators and end-users of the technology to learn about the leading edge of laser material processing technology in this field. \nThe 2023 AILU AGM will follow this workshop\, from 14:30 – 15:30 (see here). \nProgramme\n09:30 – 10:00  Registration \n10:00 – 10:10 Welcome\nTian Long See\, Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) \nSession 1\n \n10:10 – 10:30  Net Zero: Targets\, Progress & How Industrial Lasers Contribute\nDave MacLellan\, AILU \n10:30 – 10:50  High Heat Flux Lasers in Nuclear Fusion Engineering\nPetros Efthymiou\, UKAE \n10:50 – 11:10  Controlling Hazardous Fume for Decommissioning\nLewis Jones\, Loughborough University \n11:10 AM – 11:40  Break \nSession 2 \n11:40 – 12:00 Laser Welding for Electrification\nPaola De Bono\, TWI \n12:00 – 12:20  Laser Processing in Battery Production – Status Quo & Future Perspectives\nJohannes Kriegler\, Technical University\, Munich \n12:20 – 13:00  Discussion Session \n13:00 – 14:15  Lunch \n14:30 AILU AGM (optional) \n\n  \nVenue\nPost code for Sat Nav: S60 5TZ \nAMP Technology Centre\nAdvanced Manufacturing Park\nBrunel Way\nRotherham\nSouth Yorkshire\nS60 5WG \nT: +44(0)114 254 1200 \nSee here for more travel information \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nAILU EVENT T&Cs\nSee AILU Event Terms and Conditions here.\n____________________________________ \nBy registering for this meeting you agree that you are happy for AILU and Sponsors to contact you after the event
