SUMMARY:AILU Workshop - Laser Cleaning
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Chair: Tony Jones (Cyan Tec)\nThe rise in the number of laser cleaning systems on the market has led to a rapid increase in the uptake of the application. Advantages of cleaning by laser are the following: \n\nNon-abrasive process which doesn’t contaminate the surface\nSelective cleaning with no damage to the underlying surface\nSuitable for automation or manual operation\nMinimal waste – only fume extraction required\nRemoves rust\, paint\, coatings\, soot and layers of organic material\nEfficient and fast\, giving excellent results\n\nIncreasingly being used in automotive\, aerospace\, electronics and even the nuclear industry\, laser cleaning can be seen regularly on YouTube videos and LinkedIn posts. \nThis workshop will share the latest in new technology\, from researchers and manufacturers\, as well as giving case studies of applications where it has proved itself to be the best method in production. \nSuitable for anyone planning to use laser cleaning\, or just wanting to understand how it works. There will be presentations in the morning and afternoon\, with time set aside for networking over coffee breaks and lunch. A small exhibition of suppliers will be alongside the workshop for those looking to discuss the equipment and services available. \n \n  \nProgramme\n09:30 – 10:00  Registration \n10:00 Welcome & Introduction\nTony Jones\, Cyan Tec Systems \nMorning Session\n10:10 AM–10:30 AM | Laser Cleaning: A Solution Looking for Applications\nLeo Sexton\, LaserAge \n10:30 AM–10:50 AM | Reduced Hazard Laser cleaning using Retina Safe Wavelengths\nTara Murphy\, Woodrow Scientific  \n10:50 AM–11:10 AM | Laser cleaning in restricted access situations\nMike O’Key\, OpTek \n11:10 AM–11:40 AM | Break \n11:40 AM–12:00 AM | Low energy laser shock processing: the boundary between cleaning and strengthening phenomena\nManuela Pacella\, Loughborough University \n12:00 AM–12:20 AM | Laser cleaning of thermal barrier coatings\nArtem Bogatyrev\, Nottingham University \n12:20 AM–12:40 AM | Laser cleaning of heritage objects and monuments\nParaskevi Pouli\, FORTH \n12:40 PM–1:50 PM Lunch \nAfternoon Session\n01:50 PM–02:10 PM | Automated laser cleaning: applications and solutions\nGary Broadhead\, IPG Photonics \n02:10 PM–02:30 PM | Laser cleaning in challenging environments; the importance of fume capture and analysis\nAli Khan\, TWI\n \n02:30 PM–02:50 PM | Laser surface functionalisation to enhance bonding\nJack Gabzdyl \, TRUMPF \n02:50 PM–03:20 PM | Break\n \n03:20 PM–03:40 PM | Safety considerations for laser cleaning and practical guidance for manual cleaning\nIoannis Metsios \, Lumpi  \n  \nVenue\nABB Robotics\nOrion House\nMaidstone Rd\nKingston\nMilton Keynes\nMK10 0BD \n  \nAccommodation\nThere are plenty of accommodation options in Milton Keynes including the Premier Inn Milton Keynes Central (Xscape) hotel \n  \nMain image credit: 4JET/TRUMPF
