SUMMARY:AILU Workshop: Optics & Beam Delivery
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nSponsored by Laser Trader\n  \nIntroduction\n \nChair: Bethan Smith (MTC) \nMaterial processing applications such as cutting\, drilling\, welding\, and surface structuring rely heavily on advanced beam delivery and control to achieve high productivity and consistent quality across metals\, plastics\, ceramics\, glass\, and other industrial materials. Innovations in optics for beam shaping\, fiber-optic delivery\, articulated arms\, scanning heads\, and welding and cutting heads have played a central role in enabling higher throughput\, easier integration\, improved reliability\, and greater overall efficiency. \nThis workshop will feature presenters discussing recent developments in optical components\, beam-shaping methods\, and beam-delivery hardware—including galvo scanning heads\, articulated arms\, and processing heads for welding and cutting. These insights will be valuable to beam-delivery manufacturers\, optics suppliers\, system integrators\, and end users of laser material processing\, as well as researchers working to advance the field. \nAs well as listening to the presenters\, there is plenty of time for networking with the other delegates and a handful of exhibitors. The meeting includes tea/coffee breaks and a buffet lunch. \n  \nProgramme\n9:30 – 10:00 am Registration and Coffee \n10:00 – 10:10  Welcome\nBethan Smith\, MTC \n10:10 – 10:30  Novel Optical Coating Techniques for High Power Laser Material Processing Applications\nSamuel Thienel\, Laser Components \n10:30 – 10:50  Flexible mechanisms for free-space delivery of laser energy\nNick Clark\, Alban Laser Systems \n10:50 – 11:10  Single-Step AI Control of Coherent Beam Combination for Agile Beam Shaping\nBen Mills\, University of Southampton \n11.10 – 11.40  Tea & Coffee Break \n11:40 – 12:00  A stable beam for a stable process\nFabrice Meier\, Cailabs \n12:00 – 12:20  Agile Femtosecond Lasers for Precision Multi-Material Manufacturing\nNicolas Valero\, Amplitude Laser:  \n12:20 – 12:40  Innovative hollow core fibre beam delivery solutions for Ultrashort Pulsed Lasers\nBenoît Beaudou\, GLOphotonics \n12.40 – 1.50 pm Lunch\, Exhibitors and Networking \n1:50 – 2:10  Beam Shaping for Advanced Laser Manufacturing\nAndrea Geltrude\, PowerPhotonic \n2:10 – 2:30  Example applications in laser beam manipulation for micro-structuring of materials\nOlivier Allegre\, University of Manchester \n2:30 – 2:50  Keyhole stabilisation and spatter-free welding with Adjustable Mode Beam fibre lasers\nMustafa Coskun\, IPG Photonics \n2:50 – 3:20 Tea & Coffee Break \n3:20 – 3:40  UK Laser Damage Assessment and IBD Coatings for High-Power Applications\nAndrew Ritchie\, BRL Laser Damage Ltd. \n  \nVenue\n \n\nManufacturing Technology Centre \nMTC Events\nAMTC Building\nAdvanced Manufacturing Training Centre\nAirfield Drive\nAnsty Business Park\nCoventry\nCV7 9JU \nWhat3Words: encodes.backed.balancing \nGo to Google Maps \n  \n  \nTravelling by car\nThe MTC in Coventry is located minutes away from Junction 2 of the M6. \nHead into the Ansty Business Park through a set of traffic lights. SUMMARY:AILU Workshop: High Power Laser Welding
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by\n  \n \n  \n\nIntroduction\nChair: Wojciech Suder (Cranfield University) \nWith high power fibre lasers now well-established as the laser of choice for welding metals\, the thickness of laser welds in all metals is increasing. Keyhole welding\, with or without the assistance of arc welding (to make hybrid welds) is possible in material greater than 50 mm thick. On the other hand\, the high power lasers are capable of welding smaller thicknesses at very high speeds\, opening up new applications involving high quality and high throughput reflective metals like copper and aluminium. \nThis workshop is aimed at sharing the latest results from researchers and manufacturers in the field of laser welding in the multi-kW regime. As price per watt continues to fall and wall-plug efficiency improves\, the inherent viability of laser welding and the ease with which it can be automated makes it more and more the process of choice. \nA range of speakers will present and exhibitors offering products to this market will be on hand to share information about their capabilities.  The MTC is located conveniently for the M6 motorway\, between Coventry and Rugby and delegates will be able to tour the facilities at the end of the workshop. \n  \nProgramme\n09:30 – 10:00  Registration \n10:00  – 10:10   Welcome & Introduction\nWojciech Suder\, Cranfield University \n10:10 – 10:30  Insight into the latest material joining development at the MTC\nKevin Withers\, MTC \n10:30 – 10:50   Overview of Laser Welding – When to use it and when not\nGoncalo Pardal\, Cranfield University \n10:50 – 11:10   Utilising laser beam shaping technology to improve weld quality in high volume manufacturing for E mobility\nPasquale Franciosa\, Warwick University   \n11:10 – 11:40   Break \n11:40 – 12:00  Dynamic Beam Lasers opening new parameters for laser welding\nMeir Giladi\, Civan Lasers\, Israel  \n12:00 – 12:20   High Power Laser Welding of Copper with and without Ultrasound\nPhil Carr\, Carrs Welding \n12:20 – 12:40  Using laser welding to manufacture industrial machine drive belts\nPeter Brown\, Laser Additive Solutions \n12:40 – 13:50   Lunch \n13:50 – 14:10  Laser Welding for Fusion Machines\nTristan Tremethick\, UKAEA \n14:10 – 14:30  A comparison of the electron beam welding and laser in vacuum welding process for low-medium penetration applications\nMax Nentwich\, Cambridge Vacuum Engineering \n14:30 – 14:50  Industrial laser cladding with metal cored wires\nJihane Guenoun\, Welding Alloys\, \n14:50 – 15:20   Break \n15:20 – 15:40 Beam Shaping Enhancements for Laser Welding\nCallum Wreford\, PowerPhotonic \n15:40 – 16:00   International Training & Qualification for high Power Laser Welding\nEurico Assuncao\, EWF\, Portugal \nTour of MTC \n  \nVenue\nManufacturingTechnology Centre (MTC)\nAnsty Park\nCoventry\nCV7 9JU \nGetting to the MTC \n\nLocation/parking\nMTC Location/parking \n  \nMain image courtesy Cranfield University
