Applied Laser Engineering (ALE) has been involved in the manufacture of functional topographic surfaces for more than 30 years. It recently launched its new EasyCell engraving technology, a suite of enhancements to ALE laser engraving machines.
The cornerstones of this modern technology are the unique shape, profile, and volume combinations that EasyCell facilitates. Secondly, the complexity of using a round laser beam to make quad and hexagon shaped cells is circumvented by dynamically shaping each cell being engraved.
For around forty years laser engraved ceramic Anilox rollers have been used by the flexographic printing industry. The transition from mechanically engraved Anilox rollers to laser engraved Anilox rollers was slow at first, but now the use of laser engraved ceramic Anilox rollers is ubiquitous. However, little has changed about the shape or profile of a laser engraved ceramic Anilox cell. The reason for this is quite simple, since the advent of the laser engraved ceramic Anilox roller the cell shape would largely be dictated by the shape of the laser beam itself – round. EasyCell has set aside this historic inherent weakness. This is achieved by the dynamic cell shaping of each Anilox cell as they are formed. This dynamic cell shaping is at the heart of the EasyCell engraving technique, providing hither to unobtainable shape, profile, and volume combinations.
What truly sets EasyCell apart is its philosophical shift. For decades, the engraving world has operated on the assumption that complexity was the price of quality. EasyCell challenges that assumption.
By flattening the learning curve, it lowers training requirements, allowing newer operators to delivery expert-level results. That in turn shortens onboarding time, reduces labour costs, and insulates operations from the volatility of skilled labour shortages. Machine maintenance also becomes proactive rather than reactive, and QA processes shift from operator dependent to system driven.
This in turn means higher output, fewer errors, and a more consistent product…all of which deeply impact the bottom line.
EasyCell technology can be supplied as an upgrade to an existing machine or purchased with a new laser engraving system.
