In partnership with Clive Smith Guittard Engineering, the TLM Laser Job Shop has engraved premium stainless steel door plates to elevate Lindt’s luxury brand experience in central London.
Lindt: The Project Brief
Founded in 1845, Lindt is one of the world’s most renowned chocolate makers, known for its gold-wrapped truffles, rich recipes, and dedication to craft. When Lindt opened its UK flagship store on Piccadilly, London, every detail was crafted to reflect the brand’s commitment to luxury and quality, including the entrance. Stainless steel door plates bearing the iconic Lindt logo were commissioned as a permanent fixture at the store’s main entrance, setting the tone for thousands of daily visitors.
Laser cutting and deep laser engraving, provided in partnership by TLM Laser’s Job Shop and Guittard Engineering (Clive Smith), were the chosen methods to meet the project’s aesthetic and durability demands. Deep laser engraving offers ultimate precision and eliminates the need for costly tooling compared to alternative methods such as hand engraving or milling.
The Approach
Guittard Engineering handled the CAD programming for the project, as well as the laser cutting of the stainless steel plates. TLM Laser then took on the task of engraving the Lindt logo at a size of 143.77mm x 97.36mm and to a depth of 0.6mm — a significant requirement that called for absolute control over vector quality, laser power, and pass timing.
Using a 20W variable pulsed laser system with a 254mm lens, the team prepared the supplied DXF vector files in Carveco CAD/CAM software to ensure clean, closed paths. This helped avoid duplicate contours and enabled multiple accurate passes without excessive heat or burr.
In jobs like the Lindt door plates, where vector quality directly impacts engraving quality and time, Carveco plays a crucial role in the preparation stage. It allows the TLM Job Shop team to guarantee that the laser receives a clean, optimised file, resulting in fewer errors, smoother passes, and an overall better finish on metal or other surfaces.
Each plate required approximately 10 hours of continuous laser time, with pulse parameters carefully tuned to maintain surface smoothness while achieving the required depth.
“This was a challenging project due to the vector origin and the depth involved,” said Paul Smith of TLM Laser. “We were confident that our systems would cleanly handle the multiple slice passes. Carveco helped us eliminate duplicate paths, and the result was exactly what the client needed.” Smith added.
Precision in Practice
Working with large, detailed logos for deep engraving on stainless steel introduced technical complexity. The team had to strike a balance between depth, contrast, and surface finish — all without compromising the clarity of Lindt’s brand. The project highlighted the value of vector file preparation, process patience, and laser system flexibility.
A Lasting First Impression
The finished door plates now sit proudly at the entrance of Lindt’s flagship store — polished, permanent, and unmistakably premium. The result is a subtle but striking piece of in-store branding that leaves a strong impression from the moment customers arrive.
By collaborating with Guittard Engineering and drawing on TLM’s engraving expertise, the project was completed with precision and confidence, reflecting the same care Lindt brings to its products.
